What first got you into riding?
Growing up with two older brothers, it’s only natural to follow in their footsteps so riding a bike was inherent to me.
Out of all your video parts, web edits etc, do you have a favourite clip ever?
I really like the pier gap clip in This is United. It’s something I’d imagined doing for so many years, so to actually get it done and for Coxie to be able to film it in the exact way I had envisaged was epic.
What’s an average day in the life of Leo Forte like?
My average day consists of most importantly an early wake up – emails & design research – head out to source materials & gain inspiration for new projects – spend a good few hours making – head to the trails or bowl (obviously the weather doesn’t permit this every day) – hang with the lady and find an excuse to be in the garden for the remainder of the evening.
If you had to choose one spot to ride for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
It wouldn’t be a spot, more a circumstance, that being a large field with a nice gradient, adequate wind protection and the relevant tools for building a sculptural trails mecca.
What’s the best thing about where you currently live?
There are several. Devon is the only county to have a twin coastline, north and south which are both epic – Dartmoor National Park – amazing forests and woodland – family and friends – and of course Decoy trails.
What’s the worst thing about where you currently live?
The slower pace of life can sometimes cause people to become demotivated.
What was the first contest you rode in, and where did you place?
Mount Hawke Easter jam, I won. First and last I believe, ha!
What was your bike set up and clothing of choice at the time?
My set up was heavily influenced by Garrett Byrnes at the time, my clothing however was far more ghetto.
What is your favourite and least favourite BMX related fad?
No brakes, I love to watch people who can ride properly without them and there’s only a handful, however the majority of people without them aren’t in control.
If you could be ‘pro’ in any other sport what would it be and why?
Either Snowboard or Surf for sure, the scenery in which you get to enjoy your sport is epic.
Do you have any specific rituals or things you do before doing tricks / things you are scared of?
I normally just laugh a bit more to cover up the fact that I’m sh*tting myself.
What was the scariest thing you ever done on your bike?
It would have to be the last clip in This Is United. Â The conditions / circumstances were all over the place. I’m normally quite methodical in most things I try but this was an uncertain outcome.
Outside of BMX, what is your favourite way to waste time?
I spend a lot of time looking at trees/timber, mentally and physically dissecting the mechanical workings of everything and generally learning, I’m sure some people would consider this a waste of time.
Land Rover series 1.
